Parcel Delivery Truck Rams Vehicle in Parking Lot
A parcel delivery van negligently pulled away from a loading dock and caused a significant accident with a woman in a business parking lot. She had recently had abdominal surgery and the accident exasperated her previous injury. In addition, she suffered from soft tissue injury and had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her knee. She had tried to negotiate with the adverse driver’s insurance company on her own without an attorney and received a top offer of $15,000. After coming to The Tyra Law Firm, we were able to readdress her claim with the insurer, prepare a proper demand package, and ultimately negotiated a settlement for $45,000.

An Offer of $300 Ends Up Being Settled for $30,000
A woman in Howard County was struck by a driver who made an illegal left turn in front of her. She suffered injuries to her neck, back, and knee as a result of the accident. Our client had to move to Ohio for her job and had to handle her case long distance. The adverse driver’s insurance company sent her a check for $300 to replace a child car seat but unscrupulously coded it as full settlement for her bodily injuries. Her previous attorney told her that cashing that check caused her to waive her rights to any further claim. We were able to take her case, show the insurance company how outrageous their actions were, involved the state insurance commission, and ultimately settled her case for the total maximum value of the adverse drivers insurance policy of $30,000.
Child Reunited with Mother After Father Fails to Return Her
We represented a Montgomery County woman who was harassed by the father of her children. He filed a Protective Order and a Motion for Custody that were both summarily dismissed. At the next visitation session, the father refused to return one of the children to their mother and cut off all communication between the child and her mother. He went so far as to enroll the child in a different school and attempt to give her a different name. We were able to get an emergency hearing scheduled at which the father was ordered to return the child to her mother. We then further assisted the parties in reaching a settlement agreement that recognized everyone’s rights, most importantly the children’s, and returned some stability and calmness to the family dynamics.
Woman Hit Head On By Dump Truck
In Montgomery County a woman was struck head on by a dump truck driven by an employee of a local refuse company. The truck was traveling too fast down a hill and swerved into our client’s lane in order to avoid striking a car waiting to make a left turn. After the horrific accident, the driver of the dump truck tried to flee the scene. Fortunately, the client’s luxury vehicle’s safety features were able to keep her from being severely injured. She suffered severe bruising and injuries to her neck and back that required therapy. Nevertheless, we were able to negotiate a sizable settlement and avoided her having to relive the ordeal by having to go to court.

Elderly Woman Falls Through Bus Stop
A woman was waiting for a bus on Rockville Pike. She got up to check the arrival schedule and tripped over the bar that previously held the plexiglass enclosure in place that made up the bus stop. However, the glass had been broken out and only sharp shards remained in the crossbar. She fell over it and severely cut her leg and suffered a huge hematoma to her face. As a result of filing a lawsuit and through the discovery process, we were able to show that an advertising company was actually responsible for the maintenance of the bus stop and knew or should have known of the dangerous condition caused by the broken glass. Our client settled her case for $15,000.
Man Slips on Water in Hardware Store
A man was shopping in a large hardware store in Frederick, MD, when he slipped and fell as a result of water on the floor. Store employees had moved flower pots from the outside sales area into the store prior to his fall. The pots had accumulated water in them from the outside plant watering system and that water had leaked onto the floor. Store employees had been directed to clean up the spill but had failed to do so. Our client suffered injuries to his back and elbow as a result of the fall. We were able to negotiate a settlement of $13,000 on his behalf.
